🎛️ Using Your iPad with the Clarett Audio Interface @ PIRATE.COM

Planning to use your iPad with our studio-provided Clarett 4Pre USB interface? Good news: it’s totally doable! 🚀

However, there’s one key step you need to complete before your session, to avoid issues like sudden loss of sound or connectivity problems.

đź“Ś Important: One-Time Setup Before Your Session

Although the Clarett interfaces in our studios are iPad-compatible, they require pre-configuration via Focusrite Control software on a Mac or PC.

Without doing this step first, the interface may connect to your iPad but you might experience sudden audio dropouts or silence.

⚙️ How to Configure the Clarett (one-time only)

Before your studio booking, follow these quick steps on your home Mac or PC:

âś… 1. Download & Install Focusrite Control

âś… 2. Set Your Audio Routing in Focusrite Control

Choose your scenario:

🎤 Scenario 1: Recording Vocals (Direct Monitoring)

Use this if you're recording vocals and want instant monitoring with no delay:

  • In Focusrite Control, select "Custom Mix" for the outputs you'll use (headphones/speakers).
  • On the right side, add input channels you'll use (e.g., Mic in Input 1).
  • Adjust volumes of inputs using the faders.
  • Add Playback 1-2 from the "Software Playback" section to listen back after recording.
  • On your iPad recording app, mute or disable track monitoring to prevent doubled vocals.

🎧 Scenario 2: Playback from a DAW or Music App

Use this if you're just playing audio or backing tracks from your iPad:

  • Set all outputs you’ll be using to "Playback 1-2".
  • This routes audio directly from your DAW/app to speakers/headphones clearly.

🎸 Quick Note for Guitar/Bass Players

  • If plugging your guitar/bass into Inputs 1 or 2, set these inputs to "Instrument" (not "Line") in Input Settings.

🎚️ Adjust Output Volumes & Controls

  • Adjust output volumes on the left-hand side using faders.
  • Under Device Settings → Monitor Controls, select which outputs your Clarett’s main dial controls.

⚙️ Sample Rate & Sync Settings

  • Choose standard sample rates (44.1 kHz or 48 kHz is common for iPads).
  • Set Sync Source to "Internal" (unless you use additional digital equipment).

đź’ľ Save the Setup

  • Close Focusrite Control—your settings save automatically.
  • Your Clarett setup is now ready to work seamlessly with any Clarett provided by PIRATE.COM.

📲 Connecting to Your iPad

Once you've completed the above

  1. Ensure the Clarett interface is connected to mains power.
  2. Connect your iPad to the Clarett using the correct Apple adapter:
    • USB-C iPad: Apple USB-C to USB Adapter
    • Lightning iPad: Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter
(Important: Use official Apple adapters—others might not work reliably.)
  3. Launch your DAW or recording app—your iPad will automatically detect the Clarett.

âś… Enjoy creating!

⚠️ Quick Troubleshooting Tips

  • No sound or sudden dropout?
    • Restart your iPad and reopen your app.
    • Confirm Clarett is fully powered and re-check adapter connection.
    • Reconnect Clarett to your Mac/PC again to double-check your Focusrite Control settings.
