Recording your DJ set
CAPTURE, Pioneer DJM-REC, or your own DAW setup
You can record your DJ set in a studio that's CAPTURE enabled — look for the CAPTURE logo on the studio listing at book.pirate.com — or bring your own extra equipment and set up a DIY recording instead.
🎤 CAPTURE app (iPhone only)
If your studio is CAPTURE enabled, this is the easiest way to record your mix. A CAPTURE-disabled room simply means there's no CAPTURE device in that studio, or there's a fault with the one that's there.
No extra cables or hardware needed — just bring your iPhone, download the CAPTURE iOS app, connect to Pirate Wi-Fi, and record. You can start downloading your recording an hour after your booking ends.

See the full CAPTURE app guide for more. Note: CAPTURE isn't currently available for Android.
If CAPTURE isn't available in your studio, here are a few DIY options — these all need extra equipment you'll bring yourself, since we don't stock spares like recording cables on site.
📱 Pioneer DJM-REC app (iPhone only)
If you're on iPhone or iPad, download the Pioneer DJM-REC app from the App Store. You'll need your own USB-A to Lightning cable (USB-A to USB-C for iPhone 15 or later).
Visit the Pioneer website for setup instructions using this app with our studio equipment.
💻 Recording onto a DAW (via the DJM mixer)
This option needs a bit more setup, since everyone's software and configuration is different. Using the USB port on the DJM-900NXS2 mixer, connect to your laptop and record onto a DAW such as Ableton, Audacity, or similar.
You'll need to:
- Download the Pioneer drivers for your laptop before starting.
- Bring a USB-A cable to connect your laptop to the DJM mixer. Using a laptop rather than a USB stick? Also bring USB A-B cables for each CDJ and the mixer.
🔌 Recording onto a DAW (via your own interface)
Connect your own audio interface to the MASTER 2 (RCA) output channels on our DJM-900NXS2 mixer, then hook the interface up to your laptop. Set up your audio interface in your DAW as usual and record.
You'll need to bring your own audio interface and cables, including:
- An RCA cable from the back of the DJM mixer into your audio interface (e.g. RCA to double TS jack).
- A USB cable to connect your audio interface to your laptop.
