Rehearsal: Connecting a Phone or Laptop via AUX

Connecting your phone or laptop to the speakers

Via AUX cable, by mixer type

πŸŽ’ What to bring

To connect your phone or laptop to the mixer, bring an RCA-to-3.5mm cable (AUX cable) to your session.

  • Lite rooms with the Allen & Heath ZED-6FX mixer: you'll need a 2TS-to-3.5mm cable instead.
  • iPhone users: you'll also need a Lightning-to-3.5mm adaptor to connect the AUX cable.

⚠️ Please note

  • While we try to provide AUX cables where possible, we can't guarantee availability on the day and can't provide spares. If you need this cable, bring your own.
  • Bluetooth connection to the mixer or speakers isn't possible β€” the only way to connect a phone is via the AUX cable method.

🎚️ If the mixer is an Alto Live 1202

1. Make sure the mixer is switched on and the blue power light is lit. Check its power cable is properly plugged in.

2. Make sure the speakers are on and showing the power light. Check their power cable is properly plugged in and they're switched on at the wall sockets.

3. Using the RCA-3.5mm jack (AUX) cable, plug your device into the "2Track IN" port at the back of the mixer.

4. On your laptop's audio settings, make sure the Output device is set to "Built-In Output" or "External Audio/Headphones".

5. Below the FX section, look for the "2Track IN" blue knob.
Make sure the button next to it is unpressed (set to "Main Out") and the blue knob is turned up to a reasonable level while playing audio.

πŸ”§ Common fixes if it's still not working (Alto Live 1202)

  • Make sure the RCA (red and white/black) cables are connected into the "2 Track IN" inputs, not "2 Track OUT" β€” if connected to OUT, you'll get very quiet playback.
  • Double-check the "2 Track In" button is set to the MAIN OUT position (not pressed in).

🎚️ If the mixer is a Proel MQ12USB

1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 from the Alto Live 1202 section above (mixer and speakers power check).

2. Using the AUX cable, plug your device into Channel 9/10 or 11/12's red and white sockets. On 11/12, make sure the grey button is unpressed (set to "Line").
