Equipment Setup: Step-by-Step
Here's your routing guide, plus quick checks to confirm everything's connected right.
Power
-
Speakers should be switched on at the wall socket and at the back of the speaker. An LED light will confirm they have power.
Check that the CDJs and DJM are switched on at the back, and that all power cables are plugged in correctly.
Speaker connections
- You should have 2 XLR cables (large, round connectors) running from the MASTER1 outputs on the back of the DJM mixer to each speaker.
CDJ connections
- The CDJs should connect from their AUDIO OUT ports to two LINE input channels on the DJM (e.g. CH1 and CH3) using a red/black or red/white RCA cable. In Leeds, these connect to the DIGITAL ports instead.
Channel input source
- Set the top dial on each channel to LINE if you're playing from a USB stick, or A/B if you're playing from a laptop using Rekordbox, Serato, or Traktor (see HID mode here). In Leeds, set dials to DIGITAL.
Trim
- Turn up the Trim dial on each channel just enough so the channel's LED strip reaches the first orange light (0). Going higher can cause distortion.
Balance and volume
- Set the Balance dial on the main output channel to the middle (12 o'clock) so sound comes from both speakers. Adjust the master volume to your preferred level.
Crossfader
- Set each channel to THRU (not A or B) and keep the crossfader in the middle. This is just a starting point. You can switch a channel to A or B later if you want to use the crossfader between CDJs.
And that's it - you should be good to go!
