There are a number of quick checks you can do to ensure the equipment is set up correctly:

  • The speakers should be switched on at the wall socket and at the back of the speaker. An LED light on the speaker will indicate they have power.
  • Check that the CDJs and DJM have been switched on at the back. Also, check that the power cables for each unit are plugged into the back correctly.
  • Ensure you have 2 XLR (large round cables) coming out from the 'MASTER1' outputs on the back of the DJM mixer - these are connected to each speaker.
  • The CDJs should be connected from their AUDIO OUT ports into two channels on the LINE inputs of the DJM (eg. CH1 and CH3) with a red/black (or red/white) RCA cable.

  • Set the top dials on each channel to LINE, if you're playing from your USB stick. Set them to A or B if you're playing from your laptop using Rekordbox, Serato or Traktor (see HID mode here).

  • The Trim dial on each channel also needs to be turned up. Make sure it is only turned up high enough so that the signal on the channel's LED strip reaches the first orange light (i.e 0), otherwise this could cause distortion.

  • To ensure your tracks are coming out of both speakers, the Balance dial on the main output channel needs to be set to the middle position (12 o'clock). The master volume dial can be adjusted to reach your preferred volume.

  • Make sure that each channel is set to 'THRU', as opposed to 'A' or 'B' and the crossfader is in the middle position. This is just a starting point, and you can set either channel to 'A' or 'B' if you would like to use the crossfader to switch between the output of each CDJ.

And that's it - you should be good to go!
