Recording: What do I need to bring?

Before heading down to one of our recording rooms, make sure to check out this list, so you will be sure that you have everything you need before starting to record. As always, please check book.pirate.com for the full list of equipment available for your session in the room you have booked - you will need to bring any extras outside of that list.

What you need to bring:

  • Your own Laptop.
  • A recording software (DAW) that you are confident with. We recommend Logic Pro X or Ableton

IMPORTANT: Before your session, make sure to have Focusrite Control downloaded and installed on your laptop. This application lets you reset a Clarett 4 Pre USB or Scarlett 18i8 in case the audio isn't coming through correctly. You will need the *latest version* for Mac or Windows and you can find it here.

We also recommend bringing these as a backup:

  • A USB A-C or C-C cable to connect your laptop to the interface and a headphone adaptor (small to large jack connector). These are in case our cables go missing and you would like to save time.
  • Additionally, if a hub is required for your session, you will also need to supply this. Remember to never plug the interface into a USB hub, though - always connect it directly into your laptop.

We will provide - an audio interface, headphones (please check the amount on the specifics for your room on book.pirate.com) a USB A and USB C cable to connect your laptop to our interface, a pair of speakers, a mic, a MIDI keyboard and other pieces of gear that can be found on book.pirate.com for a specific recording room.
We will not be able to provide anything outside of what is mentioned on the room in question on book.pirate.com - you are required to bring any extras with you.

I haven’t recorded anything or used any recording software before, is this room suitable for me?

As there isn’t anyone on-site to teach you how to use your computer and chosen software we highly recommend that you get yourself proficient before using our Recording studios. The studio setup is not complicated, so if you have been using your software (Logic, Ableton, Pro Tools etc.) at home, then you will easily learn how to use our studios.
