How to Reset the Focusrite interface

Fixes most software-side issues in 3 minutes

Resetting the interface takes about 3 minutes and fixes most software-side issues, including headphone, speaker, and mic problems — here's how to do it.

🔄 Resetting the interface

You'll need the latest version of the Focusrite Control software. This step is crucial — without it, the interface will show "No Hardware Connected." Find the latest version here, making sure to install the correct one (Mac or PC) for your device.
  1. Download and install it.
  2. Important: restart your laptop after installing.
  3. Once restarted, close all other apps and leave only Focusrite Control open.
  4. Click "File" > "Restore Factory Defaults" > OK — this resets the interface to factory settings.
  5. If prompted to choose a Preset, click off that window instead.

  6. Make sure your Audio Input and Output routing on your Mac/Windows audio settings, and your DAW's audio settings, are assigned to the Clarett 4 Pre USB.

FL Studio and Windows users: select "FOCUSRITE USB ASIO" as your audio driver. FL Studio setup guide here.

💡 Tips

  • Reset the interface every session to cancel any previous routings.
  • Check the 3 green lights are on when your laptop is plugged into the interface. If the USB light isn't on, you likely have the wrong USB cable plugged in.
  • Make sure the yellow speaker cables are plugged into LINE OUTPUTS 1-2 at the back of the interface. If they're in LINE OUTPUTS 3-4 (easily done), the interface ignores the master volume control and sends audio at max gain — bad for ears and gear!
  • You can watch a 1-minute Focusrite Control quick tour here.

If Focusrite Control shows "No Hardware Detected," see this guide. If none of the above helps, double-check all the steps in this guide.
