Common problems and fixes for speaker issues in our Recording studios
No sound out of the speakers
- Are the speakers turned on and showing the power light?
- Is the interface showing 3 green lights? If not, the USB cable is not fully plugged in at the back of the interface. Do not use a USB hub, plug the other end directly into your laptop.
- Are the two yellow speaker cables connected to LINE OUTPUTS 1-2 at the back of the interface?
- Still no luck? Reset the Focusrite Control software
One speaker is not working
Either the left of right speaker is not working
- Are both the speakers switched on with power lights on?
- Are the two yellow speaker cables connected to LINE OUTPUTS 1-2 at the back of the interface?
- Try swapping the two yellow cables around - this can give you indication of if the problem is with the speaker itself or the interface output
- Still no luck? You'll need to reset the interface using the Focusrite Control driver
The volume control is not working
If you can't seem to adjust the volume of the speakers then this is what you need to do:
- Look at the back of the audio interface
- You will see 2 yellow speaker cables
- Make sure these are connected to LINE OUTPUTS 1-2 only
- If they are connected to LINE OUTPUTS 3-4 the volume knob becomes inactive
- If you get no sound when you connect to LINE OUTPUTS 1-2 then you just need to reset the interface using the Focusrite Control driver
The speakers sound distorted or blown
- Remove the two yellow speaker cables from the back of the interface and re-insert them firmly - make sure they are connected to LINE OUTPUTS 1-2 only
- If the speakers still sound distorted then it's time to reset the interface using the Focusrite Control driver
I'm still having issues!
RESET THE INTERFACE
99% of problems with equipment in the recording studios can be resolved by downloading Focusrite Control and resetting the interface to its factory defaults.

Download and install the Focusrite Control software and then restart your computer. Once installed open the software and go to file and then restore factory defaults (it also sometimes helps to go to presets and select system playback).
If you open Focusrite Control and it shows No Hardware Detected please read this guide. If all of the above doesn't help, please double-check all steps shown in this guide.
If Focusrite keeps causing the computer to crash, check to see if McAfee Antivirus is installed. It coud be the reason it's crashing. Un-install McAfee to see improvement.
